Making a Starburst Murrine Cane

with Lauri Copeland

Making simple murrine cane is easier than you think! In this tutorial, Lauri uses soft Italian rods to create a star murrine cane. The same technique would of course be used for boro, but would need more time and more heat. (For boro, heat it like crazy in order to get a nice long pull....). Lauri begins by heating opaque white glass and popping it into an optic mold. Then she encases it with a contrasting color and draws it out. This is an excerpt from her new DVD, “All Fired Up”, which you can learn more about (and purchase!) by clicking the DVD cover you see above. Murrine are rewarding to make, they just take a little practice...and a lot of patience!!

We filmed at the Carlisle School of Glass Art. They offer awesome classes. For more information, visit their website at: www.carlisleschoolofglassart.com
